County Officials Seek New Partner For Miller Motorsports Park

Miller Motorsports Park Circa May 2008

Earlier this month, Miller Motorsports Park said it would cease operations this October. Now, Tooele County, Utah officials intend to keep the track open.

The Tooele County Commission is seeking a partnership with a new operator possessing a "core competency" in operating the 500-acre facility about to be abdicated by the Miller family, The Salt Lake Tribune reports. The county owns the land Miller Motorsports Park rests upon, and would sell to a new owner if possible, according to County Commissioner Sean Milne:

I would say there have been dozens of potential suitors of one fashion or another [who are] interested in the entire facility down to specific parts of the facility.

Meanwhile, tenants at Miller were given a notice to vacate by the end of this October, though both the county and the Miller Group want them to stay. Milne says the county will "figure out a way to bridge that gap" during the management transition, going as far as to sign the tenants onto new leases meant to carry tenancy past October should new management not be in place by October 31.

Of the parties interested in operating Miller Motorsports Park, Milne says several were "quickly dismissed [as] not serious, not capable of taking care" of the track and surrounding property. However, a decision as to who will operate Miller — or when the decision will be made — remains too early to say, as discussions with potential suitors are in the early stages.
