Vehicles Affected: Approximately 44,660 model-year 2014-15 Volkswagen Jetta sedans manufactured between March 28 and Nov. 24, 2014; model-year 2014-15 Passat sedans manufactured between April 7 and Nov. 18, 2014; model-year 2015 Golf and GTI hatchbacks manufactured between July 1 and Nov. 20, 2014; and model-year 2014-2015 Beetle hatchbacks and convertibles manufactured between March 31 and Nov. 27, 2014. This is an expansion of an earlier Volkswagen recall.
The Problem: A sealing cap at the fueling rail may fail and allow fuel to leak into the engine compartment; in the presence of an ignition source this increases the risk of a fire.
The Fix: Volkswagen will be notifying owners in early February, and dealers will replace the fuel rails free of charge.
What Owners Should Do: Owners can call Volkswagen at 800-822-8987 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236 for more information.
