While the liveries draw a direct line between the race-prepped F1 GTR and the track-ready P1 GTR, they also illuminate just how far top-spec McLarens have come. The P1 GTR is a technological marvel, lacking perhaps the mechanical purity of the old F1 but making up for it with an overabundance of performance and guts—986 horsepower worth of guts, to be exact, when you count both electric and gasoline motors. And it sounds angry.
The short video tells a bit of the story as the P1 GTR overtakes and then leaves the F1 GTR in the dust on the straight. How much of this is editing and—ahem—team orders, and how much is a representation of the actual performance gap is left to the imagination, but that's beside the point. The P1 GTR is the real deal, and for $3.1 million, it can be yours.
