67,000 Cadillac ATS Models Recalled for Overly Sensitive Sunroof Switches

2015 Cadillac ATS coupe 3.6 RWD

General Motors is recalling a number of Cadillac ATS models because the sunroof can apparently be opened with too light a touch, according to filings with Transport Canada. This might seem like one of those "Is this really a defect?" cases, but Federal law in fact stipulates a minimum amount of pressure for activating sunroof switches, and the Caddy units don't comply. Hey, the law's the law.

The recall affects about 67,000 ATS models from 2013–2015 in the U.S. and Canada, according to the Detroit News (the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not yet posted the recall, so U.S.-specific recall numbers are forthcoming). The sensitive sunroof switch solution? Dealers will install new console switch trim plates. For as trivial as switch pressure noncompliance might sound, the issue marks the fifth recall for the ATS since its 2012 debut. Previous problems have included faulty seat belt locks, front seats that could come off their brackets in a crash, broken shifter cables that could cause rollaways, and intermittently flashing brake lights.
