Mercedes loves the rolling-barn anachronism that is the G-wagen, and it really loves producing and selling profit-heavy, super-bonkers versions of the stalwart beast. Consider the G63 AMG. And the V-12 G65 AMG. And the insaniac 6×6. All based on what is, essentially, still a rough-and-tumble military vehicle for which the basic R&D was done decades ago.
