The first Genesis sedan was a step in the right direction toward Hyundai offering a bona fide luxury car. A floppy, somewhat incoherent step, but one nonetheless. The new one, however, is massively better, and is not just handsome and a great value—it's actually good to drive. So how to improve it? Supercharging, man.
It seems that Hyundai doesn't need our advice, though, as it has already teamed with ARK Performance on the Genesis AR550 for the 2014 SEMA show in Las Vegas. With the help of a Rotrex supercharger and a high-flow exhaust system, horsepower increases to a remarkable 550. That's reason enough for Hyundai to claim the car has "performance characteristics on par with German supersedan rivals like Mercedes-Benz AMG and BMW M."

With a lowered chassis, fat tires, and a suitably aggressive body kit, this Genesis definitely looks the part. In true SEMA fashion, Hyundai hooked up with aftermarket upholsterer Katzkin to create "the opulence of a private business jet." It even features "diamond stitching," which we've seen on German luxury sedans (albeit not on any business jet we ever traveled in). We love this version of the Genesis, and let's hope it has legs after SEMA—wouldn't it make a great production N model?
