Aside from questionably-imported grey-market models, Nissan's legendary GT-R has only been in the U.S. market since 2008. In its homeland, however, the GT-R nameplate has a history reaching all the way back to 1969. Nissan's celebrating that rich lineage with a special 45th Anniversary edition of the brutal coupe, but don't hold your breath: They're only selling 45 of them, and they'll only be available in Japan.
The special edition marks the GT-R's sapphire anniversary with a unique Silica Brass paint color last seen on the also very limited M-Spec edition of the R34 generation–y'know, the 1999-2002 model seen in 2 Fast 2 Furious, the one U.S. fans wanted dearly but couldn't get. This 45th Anniversary Edition builds on top of the Premium Edition luxury trim level, adding special badging to the center console and a numbered plaque on the engine.
All 45 of the super-limited edition GT-R will go on sale in Japan in February, alongside the normal 2015 model year. Those lucky 45 buyers will have to plunk down 10,787,040 yen, or roughly $91,500, for the honor. Just don't expect to see Godzilla in his 45th birthday suit here in the U.S.
