The Baja 1000 is a brutal test of man and machine alike, punishing both race vehicles and the team chase trucks that support them over 1000 miles of unforgiving terrain. Toyota and off-road fabricator N-Fab will show three tough chase trucks at SEMA this week, to give a taste of what it takes to survive in the Baja.
2015 TRD 4Runner
TRD and N-Fab took Toyota's tough SUV into the desert with a jacked-up TRD Pro suspension and a beefy set of wheels and tires. Rigid E-series light bars on the roof, behind the grille, and out back provide the lumens to pierce the inky night, while a Smittybilt winch gives the SUV 9500 pounds of recovery capabilities. N-Fab rock rails protect the bodywork, and TRD-embroidered headrests and a carbon-fiber dash kit add some interior flair.
2015 TRD Tacoma
Toyota's venerable compact pickup gets a TRD suspension and wheels and meaty BFGoodrich tires. Equipped for desert rescue and repairs, the Tacoma carries a Smittybilt onboard air system, a Jegs Pro aluminum jack, a Smittybilt winch with aluminum fairlead, and Atlas recovery gear. The truck wears a full host of LED illumination front and rear, along with small and large coolers for transporting much-needed hydration into the most remote areas of the desert.

2015 TRD Tundra
The biggest of Toyota's pickups puts its copious cargo capacity to use in Baja trim. With a Smittybilt bed-mounted tool locker, twin 11-gallon Hunsaker fuel jugs, three mounted spare tires, an aluminum two-ton jack, and Smittybilt cargo rack, the truck is a rolling garage for Baja-bound repairs. Like the rest of TRD's showing, the Tundra gets TRD Pro suspension, BFGoodrich tires, and Rigid lighting front and rear. It may not be quite as tough as the Toyota Tundra Trophy Truck that ran under coach Ivan "Ironman" Stewart at this year's Baja 1000, but it brings the necessary backup for a team running the grueling desert race.
