A smokin' value with a base MSRP of under $55K, the C7 Chevrolet Corvette is one of our favorite sports cars cars extant regardless of class or cost. And of course, the Corvette range is about to get even better with the addition of the world-beating Z06.
And that's not just for its power boost from a naturally aspirated maximum of 460 horsepower to a supercharged 650 ponie and its wicked performance estimates, but also its body, aero, and chassis enhancements. But while the Z06 will be a bargain against the cars with which it competes on performance, its near-$80K sticker may be just out of reach for many Corvette shoppers.
Good news, then: Corvette owners who can't easily cough up an extra $25,000 may soon be able to reach into the Chevy Performance catalog for a whole slew of Z06 components that can take their Stingray from impressive to bloodthirsty. The bowtie brand fitted a batch of them—which it calls "conceptual," since the decision to offer them hasn't been confirmed—to a Stingray and hauled it to the 2014 SEMA show in Las Vegas (actual Z06s shown).
The parts list is extensive and includes:
• Z06 anti-roll bars, control arms, and unique composite transverse rear leaf spring
• Bilstein shocks tuned to optimize the above pieces
• Z06 front and rear steel brake rotors and six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers
• Z06 front brake ducts, rear quarter-panel vents, and high-wing spoiler with adjustable wicker
• Z06 high-flow radiator fan and grille
• Z06 rear transaxle-oil cooler and front auxiliary transaxle cooler
• Z06 carbon-fiber torque tube and driveshaft couplers
• Z06 carbon-fiber underbody bracing
Says Chevrolet VP of performance vehicles and motorsports Jim Campbell: "We are looking forward to the feedback from SEMA members and Corvette enthusiasts around the world about their interest in these concept Z06 parts." Our two cents? Vette owners want this stuff. Like, yesterday.
