A 708-hp Hyundai Sonata? Why, Yes, Have One

"Reliable power, guaranteed," says Bisimoto, a tuner based in Ontario, California, east of Los Angeles. And that's a good thing. Wouldn't you be slightly concerned about squeezing 708 horsepower out of a rather pedestrian four-cylinder engine?

The object of manipulation, in this case, is a Hyundai 2.4-liter Theta II engine, fitted in a Sonata four-door sedan. A Turbonetics TNX 82/64 turbocharger complete with a Turbonetics wategate and blow-off valve (we can already hear it), forged pistons, R&R steel connecting rods, and a plethora of further improvements help to utterly transform the character of the four-banger. It is mated to a six-speed manual, which yay!

A high-speed-ready aero package, a crazy-low suspension, a roll cage, and a modified interior with racing belts turn this Sonata into a performance sedan that obviously, and credibly, means business. The 18-inch wheels are surprisingly modest in size. But they prove that Bisimoto is serious about performance and balance over an extreme look.

Last year, Bisi Ezerioha and his guys shocked us with a 1000-horsepower Genesis. This year, they've whipped up a 708-hp Sonata that'll leave Porsches in the dust. (And, yes, we've been told that the 708 number was on purpose.)
