Chevrolet's Volt plug-in hybrid has been on sale in its current form since the 2011 model year, so it's about time for a new one. Our latest spy photos of the 2016 model proved that the next-gen car is on its way, and now Chevrolet has announced that the sheets will come off at next January's 2015 Detroit auto show.
As for what's to come, the car's wedge shape will be more exaggerated, an increase in electricity-only driving range is almost guaranteed, Chevy is likely to offer the car in two different strengths, and the cost of entry is expected to go down.

The announcement today also included the above photo; it doesn't show much beyond that the Volt logo will be unchanged and the bow-tie badge has been relocated to under the rear spoiler. For a look at the rest of the car, we'll need to wait until January.
