Volkswagen's newest and smallest four-door coupe will debut in China this week at the Chengdu Motor Show. The Mid-Size Coupe concept version of the car was unveiled in Beijing last April; we first saw leaked images of the production model in the aftermath of the debut, and now 163.com (a kind of Chinese MSN or AOL) has posted additional photos of the car.
Aside from some awful Photoshopping, the website is generally reliable as far as vehicle leaks go. The car, which will share much with the seventh-generation Golf, is not the forthcoming CC based on the new European Passat, as that variant hasn't even been officially confirmed yet. As for the smaller car, this latest look shows that its rear end has adopted different graphics with wider taillamps that cut farther into the trunk, and it now sports a "CC" badge. This fits with the Golf CC moniker we've been reporting for more than two years. Two turbocharged four-cylinder engines—a 1.4-liter paired with a seven-speed DSG (the same combo found in our Jetta hybrid, albeit without the electric stuff) and the latest 2.0-liter with a six-speed DSG—will be offered.

We expect the Passat-based CC to continue to be offered in America, but this smaller version isn't likely to reach our shores for all the same reasons we cited a couple of years ago. VW also isn't going to want to step on the toes of its important, and also-MQB-based, new Audi A3 sedan.
