The medical records of seven-time Formula 1 champ Michael Schumacher have been stolen and are allegedly being offered for sale somewhere in the dark recesses of the internet. Schumacher was only recently roused from a medically induced coma after suffering a serious head injury while skiing in late December.
Word of the theft came from the U.K.'s Daily Mail, which quoted Schumacher's manager, Sabine Kehm, as saying the documents have been up for sale "for several days." She went on to add, "We cannot judge if these documents are authentic. However, the documents are clearly stolen. The theft has been reported. The authorities are involved." Kehm also promised swift legal action against both the perpetrators/sellers and anyone who purchases or publishes the private information.
It isn't known if the records were stolen from the hospital in Grenoble where the F1 star had been treated, the rehabilitation facility in Lausanne to which he was transferred roughly a week ago, or elsewhere. The Daily Mail also states that, contrary to some reports, Schumacher remains unable to walk or talk and slips in and out of consciousness, although he is said to have been communicating during his transfer to Switzerland by nodding his head.
