On Monday, we presented this week's shifter and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle whence it came. Commenter specialagent made the winning post, correctly identifying the shifter as belonging to a Volkswagen Corrado SLC. He will be awarded a Save the Manuals button and sticker.
The Corrado featured here is from our December 1992 comparison test "Royal Flush." For 1993, Volkswagen installed its innovative VR6 powerplant in the iconoclastic model, and it pushed the Corrado to 60 mph in just 6.8 seconds (0.7 quicker than before). Top speed was also improved by 7 mph to 137, which tied for highest in the group. Although it placed third in our test, the Corrado remains a rare and fun coupe appreciated by in-the-know enthusiasts.
