Vehicles Affected: Approximately 29,019 model-year 2013-14 Chevrolet Cruze sedans
The Problem: General Motors is reporting that a faulty inflator in the driver's side front airbag could cause the bag to rupture, and metal pieces could injure the occupants. The faulty inflator could also cause the airbag not to inflate, increasing the risk of an injury in a crash. GM said it's aware of one warranty claim related to this issue.
Reuters is reporting that although the affected airbag inflators were made by Takata, the Japanese supply company at the center of a massive, multi-automaker airbag recall, the Cruze airbag inflator issue is separate.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the driver's side airbag inflator for free.
What Owners Should Do: General Motors has not yet provided an owner notification schedule. Owners can call Chevrolet at 866-694-6546 for more information.
