If we've learned nothing else here at the halfway point of 2014, it's that putting the adjective "premium" in front of any noun makes it better: "premium" beer, "premium" seats, "premium" beef jerky. Operating under that logic, Volkswagen is introducing a new Premium package for the Beetle. It gets you some premium "stuff."
The new top-of-the-range option package is offered on both the Beetle coupe and convertible with either the 1.8T or the TDI diesel engine. Some of the features are newly available to the Beetle, including:
• Bi-xenon automatic headlamps
• Climatronic automatic climate control
• RNS 510 nav/satellite radio
• Rain-sensing windshield wipers
• A cradle for iPhone 5 smartphones
On the interior, you'll find an auto-dimming rearview mirror, unique seating surfaces with leather inserts, contrast stitching, and a Fender audio system. On the exterior, there are R-Line bumpers, foglights, gray doorsills and sideview mirror caps, and your choice of Oryx White, Platinum Gray, or Deep Black color options. When it comes to wheels, the 1.8T features 19-inch Tornado designs in white, while TDI models flaunt 18-inch Disc wheels in Galvano Gray. Additionally, the 1.8T models boast a sport suspension.

• 1.8T convertible: $30,175
• TDI coupe: $31,575
• TDI convertible: $33,575
The Premium package will be available on the Beetle starting in July, long considered one of the premium months of the year.
