Audi A8’s New Twin-Turbo 4.0T V8 EPA Numbers: Same Highway Figure as V6

We already really liked Audi's big A8 sedan, but for 2013 the company shook up the A8's powertrain lineup: The entry-level 4.2-liter V-8 engine was replaced with a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6, and then the folks in Ingolstadt added a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 between the six and the range-topping W-12. We've already driven the new six-cylinder model (3.0T in Audi-speak), and liked it a lot. We also already have seen fuel-economy data for the new six; although we have yet to drive the twin-turbo V-8 model, now we can report fuel-economy figures for it (4.0T in Audi-speak). The twin-turbo mill is rated for a rather impressive 17 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway when installed in the short-wheelbase A8. In the long-wheelbase A8L, the 4.0T nets a still-respectable 16/26. It's worth noting that the short-wheelbase car's highway figure matches that of the six-cylinder A8′s. Read full story »
