Um, Wow: Porsche 918 Laps Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 Minutes, 14 Seconds

We've known that the Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid supercar was going to be something special since it first broke cover as a concept in March 2010. Our first ride in a prototype of the technological marvel at the Nardo test track hardened our expectations, and it now can officially be called quick as hell: The Spyder has lapped the famed Nürburgring in a blistering 7 minutes, 14 seconds.

That's nearly six seconds quicker than the time set by a Corvette ZR1 in 2011. And in a more alternative-energy apples to alternative-energy apples comparison—if one gas-electric apple had almost 800 horses and the full-electric apple had 376—the 918 beat the R8 e-tron EV's lap time by almost a full minute.



Understatement of the year: We want to drive the 918—bad. Preferably in Martini livery.
