Toyota Introduces Trendy Yaris Trend Special Edition for Europe [2012 Paris Auto Show]

Toyota Yaris

Besides offering up a new Auris compact and Verso MPV for Europe at this year's Paris auto show, Toyota also brought along this Yaris Trend special-edition model. Even though Toyota theoretically could send us a similar styling package for the identical Yaris we get here, this stuff probably will stay in Europe. That said, we think it suitably amps up a subcompact that's surprisingly decent to drive, awkward driving position notwithstanding.

The Yaris Trend gets a, uh, trendier look thanks to a set of neat two-tone aluminum wheels; blacked-out B-, C-, and D-pillars; chrome mirror caps and a chrome rocker-panel strip; a rear spoiler and LED taillights borrowed from the Yaris hybrid; and available contrasting-color fender accents that Toyota refers to as "deco lines." The full gamut of exterior colors is available, but the weird fender stickers can only be paired with white or silver paint. We admit this is one of the better-looking Yarises out there, and the upgrades do a lot to class up the small Toyota's appearance.

Inside, the Yaris Trend's cabin features a high-energy, high-contrast treatment courtesy of white trim pieces on the dashboard, steering wheel, center console, and door panels, set against a mostly black background. Toyota decided to include the same deco lines that grace the front fenders here, too, and slapped the decoration on the dashboard. The seats are wrapped in a combination of black- and gray-flecked cloth and white "leather-look" material; the chairs are stitched together using an ochre-colored thread that matches the deco lines.

For European customers tickled by the prospects of owning a Yaris Trend, the special-edition model goes on sale on the Continent early next year.
