Verso Is for Versatile: Toyota Refreshes Its Euro MPV [2012 Paris Auto Show]

Toyota Verso

Toyota's show stand at this year's Paris auto show was chock-full of cars we don't get here in the U.S., and here's from that list, the updated Verso people-mover. The vanlet is similar to Ford's C-Max (hybrid versions of which are coming to the U.S. soon), and is based on Toyota's C-segment architecture that also underpins the Auris compact.

If you need another analogue, the Prius V hybrid is the closest thing to this Toyota offers in the U.S. The Verso gets new front-end styling that mimics that of the new Auris that also debuted in Paris, and it works well with the van's chunky profile. A pair of squinting headlights flank a nearly full-width front grille, and the menacing countenance is furthered by the gaping lower intake and wide-set fog lights. Toyota also gave the Verso's interior a thorough re-do to improve its appearance and quality.

The updated Verso is available with five engines—two small diesels and a trio of gas engines—that are mated to either six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. Toyota isn't sending the Verso here anytime soon, but here's hoping some of its snappy styling elements make their way to the somewhat dowdy Prius V in the future.
