Mazda lays off 110 employees in North America


Mazda has announced that it has laid off 110 employees of its North American Operations. Jeremy Barnes, spokesman for Mazda, said that most of the North American layoffs occurred in the U.S. which has about 800 employees. Most of the U.S. layoffs were made at Mazda’s headquarters in Irvine, Calif.

Most of the U.S. layoffs were made at Mazda’s headquarters in Irvine, Calif.


“Everything is being done to reduce costs and make yourself as competitive as you can,” Barnes told Automotive News.



Barnes said that the layoffs covered the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. He didn’t not specify the number of employees laid off in each region.


Mazda sales drop 10.7 percent in 2008 to 263,949 units. January 2008 sales were down 27.3 percent.
