While Hyundai continues to cater to laid off Americans with its Assurance Program, the company laid off 46 employees of its 550 employees in the U.S. According to Hyundai employees, CEO John Krafcik cited the tough economy as its decision, reports Automotive News.

Krafcik said that most of the 46 employees being laid off were in sales and marketing at its headquarters and regional offices. We’re wondering if those 46 employees will take advantage of the Hyundai Assurance program.

Hyundai sales were up 14.3 percent to 24,512 units in January. Some employees said that they were told the layoffs could have been worse if the company didn’t report a positive sales increase.
