The biggest players in ultra-uber-luxury brands are Rolls-Royce and Maybach. The Japanese automakers for some reason refuse to build vehicles to cater to rich folks that want to be driven instead of drive themselves - until now.

According to Japanese car magazine Carview, Toyota and Lexus are considering an ultra-luxury brand that will rival the likes of Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Maybach. A Lexus spokesman told the publication that the company has researched the demand for such a brand and feels that customers will “embrace their product.”

No details have been revealed as of yet; however, rumors suggest that a large sedan and a coupe are in the works and could be build on a modified chassis of the Lexus LS sedan. No word on whether Toyota will fit the car with a regular gasoline engine or add a hybrid system used in the Lexus LS 400h.

No name has been decided for the brand - so we’re wondering if you were Toyota and Lexus - what name would you pick?

While its rivals shut down plants, FoMoCo has announced that it will be resuming production at its Cleveland Engine Plant No.1 to build the new fuel-efficient EcoBoost engines.

The Cleveland Engine Plant No.1 has been idled since 2007, but is now getting ready to produce the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost that will be available on the 2010 Lincoln MKS2010 Lincoln MKT, 2010 Ford Flex and the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO.

Ford said that invested $55 million in the plant for retooling and equipment upgrades. The plant will consist of approximately 250 employees which will be staffed from existing three plants at the site.

Ford said that it is also fitting the Cleveland plant with a new internal database that will ensure quality on the EcoBoost engine. The Dearborn automaker said that to prepare for production for the engine, the work force also participated in an “intensive quality training program.”

Ford plans on fitting the EcoBoost technology to more than 90 percent of its North American lineup by 2013. Also in 2013, Ford plans on fitting most of its cars and crossovers with a 4-cylinder EcoBoost.

France wants to check if U.S. auto industry loans fit WTO rules

France President Nicolas Sarkozy wants U.S. aid to the auto industry to be checked to see if it fits the World Trade Organization rules. Sarkozy was under fire earlier this month from his EU allies after offering $6 billion euro ($7.64 billion) state loan to Renault and PSA Peugeot-Citroen. In return he asked for the two companies to make an unwritten pledge to not close their facilities in France.

“We need to see if the U.S. aid is compatible with the WTO,” Sarkozy said.

The French President said that the officials in the EU should pay less attention to whether car plans meet EU rules and must coordinate a plan to help the European car industry.

European Union will meet in Brussels this Sunday to discuss the financial crisis and Sarkozy said he would as them to consider an EU-wide auto industry plan.

At the 2009 Geneva Motor Show next week, Ferrari will hold two world premiers both having to do with its 599 GTB Fiorano.

The first will be the dynamic Handling GT Evoluzione (HGTE) Package for the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. It supposedly provides sharper handling and other improvements that Ferrari will offer more details about in Geneva next week.

The second will be the world debut of the Ferrari 599XX which it says is a “technological laboratory aimed at a select group of clients.” Technologies for the 599XX have been influenced by Ferrari’s road-going and F1 research teams. Ferrari says that “many of the technological solutions it carries are being used for the first time and have been developed exclusively for this special car.”

We’re not sure if the 599XX will be a road-legal or a track car or what exactly Ferrari means by “a select group of clients” - but we’ll tell you when we find out more details next week.
