Since the whole world's been going PCP-laced bananas over this whole Lexus hoverboard video, we figured we'd call Lexus U.S. PR chief Moe Durand for comment.
-"This is Maurice."
-"Hey! It's Davey Johnson from Car and Driver."
-"Are you talkin' about the hoverboard?"
-"Yeah, how'd you know?"
-"Everybody else on the planet is. Can I call you right back at this number?"
When Durand got back to us, after a day of dealing with folks who assumed Lexus was planning to actually sell a hoverboard, he informed us that it's part of the Toyota division's new global ad campaign, entitled "Amazing in Motion," and that the clip causing all the buzz is teaser for a spot that's due to air in August.

He also confirmed that hoverboard is indeed legit and uses liquid-nitrogen-cooled magnets—as God, Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope intended. Seriously, you just know Juggalos are freaking out hard right now. The board—which was ginned up by some crafty European maglev engineers hired by Lexus—requires a ferrous surface below it to operate, so it's safe to assume the concrete in the clip has a layer of iron/steel beneath.
-So no, Lexus isn't going to sell you a hoverboard. But they're happy to use a hoverboard to sell you a car.
