The photo above, which at first blush appears to be a pair of taillights and exhaust tips floating in a dark, empty space, confirms what we've seen coming for a long time: The age of the factory murdered-out special is upon us. Nissan's been in on the game for some time, having already debuted the black-painted-trim Juke Midnight Edition, but now it is revealing a new Midnight model based on the 2016 Maxima sedan, the Maxima SR Midnight.
-Much like Chevrolet's Black-Out package for the Silverado and the Midnight Edition Impala, Jeep's Altitude kit for the Grand Cherokee, and the countless other black-on-black-on-black special-edition models out there, the SR Midnight sports blacked-out everything. The wheels, diffuser, spoiler, interior, splash guards, and, of course, the paint are all black. The charcoal-colored cabin has faux-suede seat inserts, along with all the gear that comes with the Maxima SR trim level, including aluminum pedals, paddle shifters, an 11-speaker Bose audio system, and a dual-pane sunroof.

Only just making its debut at the Nissan-sponsored BET Experience in L.A., the Maxima SR Midnight's price is still lurking in the shadows. The regular Maxima SR starts at $38,495, so figure a bit more for the Midnight. You may, however, want to budget extra for car washes—keeping the thing clean for more than 30 seconds at a time will take a herculean effort.
