Watching the big game? Provided you weren't away from the TV on a nacho/beverage/bathroom run, you just got your first full look at the upcoming 2016 Nissan Maxima, courtesy Nissan's 90-second "With Dad" commercial. In case your eyes were averted, here's another look.
Catch that deep-red sedan there at the end? That, friends, is the new Maxima. Here's the parting shot:
Truth be told, this production-looking vehicle in this 90-second spot sure looks a lot like Nissan's Sport Sedan Concept that we first laid eyes on at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. At the time, Nissan was adamant that we shouldn't refer to the concept as the Maxima. Cheeky, Nissan. Go ahead, compare our Detroit photos to the car you see above. Even someone as blind as an NFL referee could see the resemblance.
Not in the mood for a Maxima? The undoubted star of the commercial was Nissan's GT-R LM Nismo, the strangely seductive, front-engine racer that Nissan will enter in the LMP1 class at Le Mans.

Yes, Nissan's betting big on a front-engine car to win in the Prototype class at Le Mans, something that hasn't happened in more than 50 years. As for that Maxima? Bet on it having a very conventional front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout.
