Commit this lighting signature to memory: Ford just teased us with this image of a new Explorer-based Police Interceptor slated to debut at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show next week.
Ford said basically nothing about what this new Interceptor will hold. From the photo, we see that it's based on the major Explorer overhaul first shown at the L.A. Auto Show in November—check out the three-sided fog lights in the lower fascia, a lighting signature that echoes the shape of, for one, the new Raptor's headlights. Flashing red-and-blue patrol car lights will definitely make the Explorer as intimidating as the Raptor, at least when viewed in your mirror.

The new Explorer comes in three engine varieties: The naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V-6 with 290 horses and 255 lb-ft, the midrange 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo four with 270 ponies and 300 lb-ft, and the range-topping twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 with 365 horses and 350 on twist. No slouches anywhere in the mix.
We'll find out all the details on the new Interceptor come February 12th in Chicago. Until then, study this photo closely. You may see it looming in your rear-view sometime soon.
