General Motors Recall Website Posted Incorrect Information For Some

GM Recall Information Website

The recall parade led by General Motors since February of this year may need to make room for another float, as the automaker's own recall website provided incorrect information to some affected consumers.

Automotive News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that when consumers entered their VINs to determine if their vehicles were under recall, some owners were told no when their vehicles actually were affected. The error, linked to vehicles and parts availability, was corrected Friday evening, according to the agency.

However, the website itself will need a reboot to meet new NHTSA requirements later this month, which mandates automakers make available online information on whether any recalls have been completed alongside the VIN search tool. The agency adds said information can be found by going to its own SafeCar.gov site.
