2016 Ford Mustang GT350 Prototype Spins, Nearly Crashes at the ‘Ring [Photos]

Automotive spy shots are hard to obtain. While some manufacturers just parade their cars around, most actually want their future products to remain secret. So getting the photos means being in exactly the right place at just the right time, plus having a finger on the shutter button as the target car whizzes by. And even if everything falls into place, photographers are lucky if they nab more than a couple of good angles. And then there's the case of this camo-wrapped 2016 Mustang Shelby GT350 prototype.

Ford's test driver put three wheels off the Nürburgring's hallowed pavement right in front of our shooter, sending the car into a lovely pirouette on the track and giving us a terrific view of the car from all 360 degrees. Thanks, guys!

Wearing very little camo, as well as what seems to be production side sills and rear-end detailing—complete with a diffuser and fat quad pipes—the 2016 GT350 looks the business. Luckily, neither the purposeful bodywork nor the car's driver were damaged by this near miss, but with an estimated 550 horsepower from a high-revving, naturally aspirated V-8, this may be a wilder horse than we anticipated. We should know exactly how wild soon, as we expect the Mustang GT350 to be officially unveiled in the coming weeks.
