TrueCar Ranks Fuel Economy Packages And Their Economic Benefit – With Surprising Results

TrueCar has released a list of various fuel economy packages, the savings that can be gained, and how long (in years) it will take to pay back the extra cost of the packages. GM fans, get ready to shoot the messenger!

TrueCar ranked the Mazda3 SkyACTIV Sedan as the best fuel efficient package in terms of cost savings over a comparable model with the 2.5L engine. Buyers will save an estimated $563 a year in fuel, with the price difference taking 1.9 years to pay off. Rounding out the Top 5 were the Chevrolet Sonic Sedan with the 1.4L engine, the Ford Edge EcoBoost, the Kia Forte Sedan with the AutoEco package and the Ford F-150 Ecoboost.

The big losers on the list were the Ford Fiesta SFE and the Chevrolet Cruze ECO. These two cars would only provide savings of $17 and $18 respectively, and take 36.2 and 48 years to pay back the difference.

You can check out the TrueCar study here, but remember. TTAC has seen some pretty inconsistent numbers for the Mazda3 SkyACTIV.
