2013 Ford Escape Starts at $22,470

After going more than a decade without a full redesign, Ford's compact crossover gets completely updated for 2013, and base prices increase by around $1,000. Ford rep Angie Kozleski told Cars.com that the 2013 Escape starts at $22,470, compared with the 2012 base XLS's price of $21,440. Changes for the new model year include all-new styling, the addition of EcoBoost turbocharged engines, an upgraded interior and more comfort and convenience features. Base S, SE, SEL and top-of-the-line Titanium trims are available. Standard on the base S model is a tweaked version of last year's 168-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder. The two new EcoBoost engines include a 173-hp, 1.6-liter four-cylinder (SE, SEL) and a 237-hp, 2.0-liter four- cylinder (Titanium), both turbocharged. The latter replaces the outgoing model's V-6. All are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The new Escape's most notable feature is an optional power liftgate. It's activated by waving your foot under the rear bumper – no more digging for keys when your arms are full. Its standard on the Titanium version and optional on SEL. Kozleski said that about three out of four of people ordering the SEL version are opting for the hands-free liftgate. Other notable tech features include an optional Active Park Assist feature that selects a parallel parking space that's large enough for the Escape and automatically steers into it.
