24 Hours of LeMons Real Hoopties of New Jersey BS Inspections: 450SL, Volvo 262C Bertone, Turbo Chevette, and a Boat!

I've been to well over 50 LeMons races in my career as a LeMons Supreme Court judge, and I have to say that we saw some of the greatest LeMons cars of all time today at New Jersey Motorsports Park. I don't even know where to start, so let's lead off with The Boat. What we've got here is a Chevrolet S10 with a 1969 Sea Sprite boat grafted on. Everyone is hoping that it won't try to fly when it hits top speed down NJMP's long straight, but there's no telling what will happen with The Boat hits the track tomorrow. Last time we saw this car, it was painted in gold and called the Saudi Audi. Now it's the Snouty Audi. We see more Audis at the Colorado race, but this race must be the second-most Audi-centric event in the LeMons schedule. Here's an engine swap that looks good on paper but doesn't work so well in practice. Still, it sounds great! Last year, the French Toast Peugeot 405 Mi16 threw connecting rods early and often, so the team dealt with the car's weak points by buying a second Mi16, this one dubbed the French Roast. This is the first time we've seen one LeMons car serving as tow vehicle for its sister car. It was a day of firsts, as in "first time we've ever seen one of these." LeMons Legend Speedycop and his Gang of Outlaws showed up with their usual vast fleet of race cars, including our first-ever Suzuki X90. We've been demanding that a team race a Volvo 262C Bertone, and after several years of our pleading we finally got one! This car alone would have made our weekends, but there was more to come. Yes, finally we've got a LeMons R107 Mercedes-Benz! This 1975 450SL still hasn't been driven by its team at more than parking-lot speed, but we're sure it will do just fine on the track tomorrow. We had a few cars paying homage to New Jersey themes. And one that was all about Philadelphia, down to the Liberty Bell and Benjamin Franklin. There's a classic Ford-versus-Chevy battle shaping up here. The Chevette has a turbocharger and a dyno-proven 115 horses at the wheels and the Pinto is bone stock, but there's no telling which will be quicker in the real world. With more than 100 entries and a very fast track, we're guaranteed an engine-killingly good time tomorrow.
