Toyota has really asked for the trouble when accepted that its 2010 Prius hybrid model has a problem with its brake and accelerator pedals. The problem for Toyota is getting worse with each passing day and the mounting pressure has led Toyota to call over eight million vehicles worldwide over the fears of faults.
A stark warning from the US transport chief to the owners of the recalled Toyota vehicles to stop driving them before getting them fixed added insult to the injury. Toyota dealerships in America have already started receiving the parts needed to fix the problem, however the British owners have to wait a little too longer i.e. a week to get the problem solved.
Toyota’s negligence and apparent defects in Prius brakes that sometimes fail to work for less than a second has already been linked with 19 deaths and thousands of accidents in US and one such incident has been reported in Japan as well.
Thought Toyota has already fixed Prius cars sold since late January in Japan, yet it didn’t give instructions to the people who bought them earlier. Toyota sales has dropped considerably in US and regulators have accused the company of dragging its feet on fixing defective gas pedals and threatened civil penalties and further reviews of Toyota products.
A handful of the shims are needed for repairing affected Toyota accelerator pedals in a range of models, but small things make big difference and Toyota wasted time before it spread beyond control. And this mistake has already cost Toyota 23 per cent or £19 billion in the two weeks, excluding £1.26 billion that would be needed to repair the vehicles sold world over.
