Ford may be planning to put the Sync on the cloud, but the Toyota Prius looks ready to have a whole carload of stuff up in the cloud. A consortium of companies called ng Connect recently displayed a functional concept version of a Prius that was all full of cloudy tech goodies. ng Connect includes companies like Alcatel-Lucent, Atlantic Records, QNX Software Systems, Toyota, and Kabillion.
Relying on cloud computing and mobile applications, the concept gets many LCD screens, iPhone-like app platform, voice recognition and a high speed LTE connection. The tech allows movies on demand, internet access, and even gaming on a network/internet, and other infotainment facilities.
The system lets cars communicate with each other through the cloud, information on the road and travel conditions, traffic, and even video streaming of the road may be available in the cloud for users to bank upon. The system as such, is just a prototype now, but the consortium hopes to make it ready for mass production in three years.
