The student group “EcoHawk” uses 1/8 scale ecocars for their research into cleaner vehicles, which seems like an economical thing to do, while at the same time working with diverse systems. The group has converted a 1974 Beetle into a biodiesel-electric hybrid, and though it isn’t all that fuel hungry, their eventual goal is to take the car’s fuel efficiency to 500 mpg.
