A number of technologies for the car are in the offing, those that would either assist the driver, or provide additional safety. While we have been looking at the good part these innovations will bring forward, there’s another side to the coin, and we guess no one’s as good as the people at Cracked to get that point across. Take a look at the full article there, but we’ll get you started with a quote:

”Cars have come a long way since the days when they ran on four hooves and were called “horses.” Since then, we’ve innovated the electric motor, fuel injection and decorative rubber scrotums. What could possibly be left?”

The EVC (Expedition Vehicle Concept) from designer Prodan Dragos is a spacious vehicle with a lot of room, and enough credence to go off-roading. It seats four in a 2+2 pattern, giving rear seat passengers a lot of legroom and space. The front seats can swivel around to face the rear seats and thus utilize the extra space without cramming up the interiors. But should there be a need for more space, the concept’s rear can be extended to provide more interior space.

Hexagonal windows in the concept’s roof provide natural lighting, and also harness solar energy to power auxiliary systems. Three workboxes are provided at the front of the vehicle and can be used to carry cargo and other stuff. Headlamps on the concept can be removed and used as hand held flashlights with integrated batteries when required.

The CP Project One motorcycle has ultimate looks to show, and a design that brings Batman and Tyrannosaurus Rex into the same sentence. As the creators of the motorcycle put it, “We started designing a mix of Batman’s motorcycle with a T.Rex fastback and Cat Woman’s curves.” It has a Norton featherbred frame that houses a Triumph 750 Bonneville engine that makes this motorcycle quite a powerhouse.

Parts for the motorcycle weren’t simply hitched together to create this one, it took a fair amount of thought and design prowess to get this thing going. Considering the amount of work they put into it, the CP Project One does look worth every effort.

The Metalback motorcycle concept from designer Jordan Meadows is another work in the list of brilliant concepts by the designer, and as its siblings, this design is amazing as well. This café racer gets power from a V4 diesel engine burning biodiesel, which provides it with both, power and better fuel efficiency.

Green credentials of the motorcycle are further backed by the use of recycled aluminum for the frame and the skin of the motorcycle. The concept has the looks of a classic café racer, and also goes back to signifying the power of vintage WW2 fighter planes.

Recently, Fiat increased temperatures in Koningsplein, or King’s Square, central Amsterdam with a smoking hot Fiat 500C Cool Bikini Contest. Watching a number of bikini beauties dance on a winter day probably works better than hot chocolate, and makes us like Fiat’s approach to viral marketing. As you’d guess, the supposedly “impromptu” event drew a large audience.

This fully functional V Twin engine does nothing else except letting you enjoy seeing it run. It can go up to 1500rpm, has aluminum cylinders, stainless steel exhaust, and a solid brass flywheel. It uses butane as fuel and gets into action once the solid brass flywheel is turned. Oh, and you can see valve rods, crosshead, and crankshafts in action at lower revolutions. That probably does little to make the $1,000 price tag look good. The desktop V Twin will start shipping by February 19.

Designer Imran Othman’s Diesel concept is a diesel powered sportscar. The designer believes that the rising costs of gasoline are trouble for sportscars, so getting a diesel hybrid into action could well act as the savior. Also, strangely enough, the concept takes inspiration from Vin Diesel and the movie Fast and the Furious.

More strange is the premise of the concept:

“Illegal Street Racing has become a headache for street racers because of the rising prices of petrol and maintaining a sports car when you keep on losing races.

A cheaper alternative… Diesel

DESIGN

Inspired by Vin Diesel Fast & Furious

aerodynamic…

powered by diesel

everything else except street legal!!”

Yep, that about sums it all.

airtrax omnidirectional wheels

Most of the omnidirectional wheels we have seen have been on concepts, but the Airtrax wheels are probably the first real world application. The wheels allow the vehicles to move not just forward backward, but also to move sideways and rotate within their own length. Airtrax has put the wheels on forklifts and scissorlifts, and though they work well, it is not exactly clear how the wheels would fare on a conventional car on the road. Video after the jump.

Bugatti Veyron inspires the VEYRON China 1 chopper

The result is this “Hardcore” VEYRON China 1 chopper that’s been built atop the Iceman Chassis, the same chassis that was used to create Kimi Raikonnen’s Ferrari chopper. There aren’t any specs on this one, but going by the looks, it does look pretty badass, whether it is worth the Veyron name, is something we cannot say, though that would be very unlikely. Feast your eyes on the chopper in the gallery.

Young C. Park is a retired dentist who knows is art well, and his art has little to do with teeth. The man has created some very detailed and amazing airplane models using aluminum, complete with cables, chains, linkages and levers. You could actually pull the levers, but that requires tweezers, and that alone should be enough to admire the scope and intricacy of these models. More images in the following gallery.

As futuristic concepts and renderings go, the possibilities are quite endless, and mostly, what we expect cars to be like in the future. The Mercedes Benz Cyborg Sensation Vehicle concept from designer Derek Chik Kin Ng is dated for 2040. The sportscar concept seats two, and is constructed to handle a bit of off roading as well.

Its looks are not quite a radical departure from what cars are today, at least when compared to other futuristic, but this one moves by the power of thought. The designer envisions a Brain Computer Interface (BCI) that sets up communication between the car and a special helmet that the user wears. The helmet detects impulses from the brain, and sends corresponding commands for the car to follow. Although, we do think there will be a need for some filtering mechanism, because if the car started doing everything we thought of, there would be mayhem/ armageddon on the roads.

aston martin v12 vantage carbon black special edition

Aston Martin has announced a “unique” special edition Carbon Black makeover for the DBS and the V12 Vantage. The special edition cars will have a hand-painted bespoke carbon black metallic paintjob, which Aston says will take 50 man hours to complete. Other additions include a carbon fiber side strake backed by a black mesh and gloss black 10 spoke diamond turned alloy wheels. Front parking sensors have also been added.

Interiors get seats made from carbon fiber and Kevlar upholstered in Obsidian black leather with contrasting silver stitches. The new seats save 17 kilos of weight owing to their lightweight construction. Unique sill plaques for the special edition models will also find a place in the car. The V12 Vantage will come with Aston Martin 700w Premium Audio System, and the DBS will have Bang & Olufsen Beosound DBS audio system.

Both cars will be available for order by New Year, and while there isn’t a price tag yet, Aston says the special edition models will be priced nearly 5% above the standard models.

Twenty years into the future, major cities will see a lot of hauling of cargo and humans, and choked as the city roads are in the present, that situation will only get worst with increasing population over the years. That’s where designer Chansong Park’s VW Breathe concept for 2038 comes in, and magically makes the roads a lot less crowded, just like it magically changes its shape.

It can be used in either commuter or the cargo mode, and it changes its shape based on these requirements. We have no idea how it manages to do the extreme shape shifting stuff, but it’s probably something to do with the “advanced materials” used in the construction. The vehicle is fully GPS driven, so it probably has no need for driver intervention.

Ford unveiled the GT90 concept at the Detroit Auto Show in 1995, and the supercar with amazing looks has now shown up again, and this time it is on the auction block. The impressive concept has a body made of carbon fiber and it gets power from a quad-turbocharged 6.0-l V12 that puts out 720 hp. Top speed for the concept is estimated at 250mph.

RM Auctions plans to sell the car at the Arizona sale, and it claims that the concept is in excellent running condition and has been properly maintained and well stored over the years. We guess this car will fetch big bucks at the auction.
