Dynamometer! Roll it around in your mouth. Dynamo-meter. Dy-nuh-mom-et-er. Dyno, bro! Now add a Camaro Z/28. No, we're not talking about the one with the 302—it's the one with the slash in the alphanumeric and the LS7 V-8, one of the last monster engines to suck air without the assistance of forced induction. A 7.0-liter beast, the LS7 is one of the finest engines made today, and if you've ever driven a C6 Corvette Z06, you know exactly what we're talking about. If you're lucky enough to get your hands on a Z/28, well, then you're in the same league as us—and the guys at Redline Motorsports, who just happened to strap their car onto the dyno and film it for not-so-lucky folks' pleasure.

The dyno results, according to Redline's machine? The Z/28 puts out 420 lb-ft of torque and 455 horsepower—at the wheels. If one assumes a 12–18 percent loss due to drivetrain components, that roughs out somewhere in the neighborhood of 520–545 ponies at the crank. Of course, this is one car on one particular dyno; there can and will be variances in measurement from one machine to the next. Still, GM's advertised power rating for the Z/28 is a "mere" 505 horsepower. Yes, James Watt, the horsepower wars you begat still rage on, only now they are fueled by YouTube.
