Aston Martin's home base of Gaydon in Warwickshire, England, is poised to get a big boost in coming years as the firm updates its facilities to build the next generation of its luxury sports cars. Most of the new sports coupes will be built atop an all-new platform.
The first phase of investment at Gaydon, worth $33.5 million or so, will see the creation of a new chassis and prototype assembly facility, new offices, and an extension of the parts storage area. The construction will add more than 100,000 square feet to the facilities' collective footprint, with the bulk of the work expected to be completed in 2015. Meanwhile, Aston Martin is also hunting about 250 new heads over the coming months to fill new positions in its engineering, manufacturing, and commercial departments.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of Aston's planned financial investment for new products and facilities. "The investment in our Gaydon HQ forms part of our long-term strategy which is focused around being the number one British luxury sports car brand," said Aston CFO Hanno Kirner. "We have confirmed that the coming years will see Aston Martin implementing the biggest investment program in the 101-year history of the brand, with a plan to inject over £500 million ($838 million) into the company's next generation of high-performance sports cars."

Watch for the first product beneficiaries of this new money to arrive sometime in 2017 or 2018.
