Xmas in April! Acura Adds Power and Features to RDX Crossover, Releases Pricing

2016 Acura RDX
-Would you like six more horsepower? And perhaps one additional pound-foot of torque? What about a more useful torque curve? A 1-mpg across-the-board boost? Do you drive a current Acura RDX? If so, the refreshed model could come as an answer to all of your frustrated calls for such improvements—and signal a time to trade up.

The 3.5-liter, single-overhead-cam V-6 with cylinder deactivation has been updated a bit to deliver 279 horses and 252 lb-ft. It's affixed to the chassis via new active engine mounts. The AWD system it drives has been retuned for more rearward torque bias. The new EPA figures are 19/28 mpg for AWD models and 20/29 for the FWD vehicles.

Outside, the RDX has been treated to Acura's "Jewel Eye" headlights, most recently aped by Lincoln on that maker's new Continental concept. The taillights are now light-pipey LED units, which add a hint of zazz and class to the RDX's bum. The grille, says Acura, features a new three-dimensional design. Which is helpful, as we're tired of grilles that only feature width and depth. Length is important, people. We mustn't forget length.

The interior's been tweaked, too, with new high-contrast silver and black trim. Those who opt for the Tech package get a new eight-way adjustable power passenger front chair. They'll also get blind-spot gadgetry, a multi-view rear camera, and rear cross-traffic monitoring.

Spring for the top-of-the-line Advance package, and 18-by-7.5-inch machined alloys are yours. As are rain-sensing wipers, front fog lights, keyless start, parking sensors, ventilated front seats, an auto-dimming driver's-side mirror and all of the AcuraWatch safety stuff. Nav is optional on both Advance and Tech packages.

-

The price hike for the basic model is just 175 smackers—it now runs $36,190. You'd spend a lot more than $175 on some junkyard RLX headlamps and enough Bondo, solder, and duct tape to make it all work.
