GM Canada

Following a new connected-vehicle and green tech mandate, GM Canada's Canadian Engineering Centre in Oshawa, Ontario is hiring 100 engineers to support the mandate.

The 100 software and control engineers will be responsible for working on connected-vehicle, environmental and mobility solutions, according to GM Canada. Said work includes "development of new software and active controls that allow customers to take advantage of high-speed data links between automobiles and mobile networks," lightweighting, and alternative fuels.

GM Canada president and managing director Steve Carlisle stated that the new hires would give his subsidiary the opportunity "to take advantage of a wealth of talent in mobile technologies, software and advanced automotive engineering available in Canada's leading universities and other partner organizations." GM global sales chief Mark Reuss added that development of those technologies go a long way toward delivering new models with the features his company's consumers desire, and praised the new initiative.

GM Canada also plans to use social media to connect with all Canadians as the center's team goes to work on those technologies.
