Topless ’57: Fiat Expands Retro “1957 Edition” Treatment to 500C Convertible

2015 Fiat 500C 1957 Edition

-

Just in time for summer, Fiat has announced that it is gifting the 500C cabriolet the same "1957 Edition" goodies introduced for the 500 hatchback last year. This means a full raft of cutesy retro touches, including neat little steel-wheel lookalikes, old-school "Fiat" badging, and a classic-looking brown-and-ivory leather interior. It's not a remastered Fiat Jolly, unfortunately, but it should make for a nice fashion piece for those who think Volkswagen Beetle convertibles are just too big.

Like the 500 1957 Edition hatchback, the cabriolet version also rides on a sport suspension, and those cool old-timey, body-color wheels are in fact extra-modern forged-aluminum pieces. Based on the upscale 500C Lounge trim level, the 1957 cabrio comes standard with a five-speed manual, the base 500's naturally aspirated 101-hp 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, a 276-watt audio system, and the aforementioned leather interior (albeit with a unique color scheme). Only three colors are available—Bianco (white), Verde Chiaro (green), and Celeste (blue)—and they're all '50s-esque, pastel jobs.

Pricing for the 500C 1957 Edition starts at $25,600, which is $4200 more than the fixed-roof 1957 model. If that sounds like a steep price jump, it's really not—every 500C cabrio is about $4000 more than an equivalent 500 hatchback. The better price comparison is between the 500C 1957 Edition and the 500C Lounge on which it's based; the retromobile is just $1900 dearer, but it comes with sweet visuals and that special interior. Fiat has begun taking orders for the newest 1957 Edition model, and will begin deliveries this spring.
