The Mercedes-Benz G-wagen has come a long way from the simple truck built for the military in the late 1970s to ultimate big-boy toy. Nothing illustrates the distance the the G-wagen has traveled more than the G65—particularly once you learn its pricing.
-The 2016 Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG stickers for $218,825. Let that sink in for a minute.
-Not only is that nosebleed territory in absolute terms, but it's a hefty jump even from the other members of the G-wagen posse. The base G550 retails for $116,325; the G63 AMG rings in at $138,075.
--But those two don't have the G65's twin-turbocharged V-12 engine, which puts out a towering 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. The G63, by contrast, gets 536 horsepower and 560 lb-ft from its twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8; while the G550 offers 382 horsepower and 391 lb-ft from its naturally aspirated 5.5-liter.

Besides a mega-ton of power, what else does one get for that price? Mercedes isn't getting into specifics yet—the G65 won't reach dealers here until November. Meanwhile, if you absolutely must spend 200 large on an AMG product RIGHT NOW, your smiling salesperson can direct you to three other choices: the SL65 convertible ($216,175); the S65 sedan ($222,925); and the S65 Coupe ($231,825).
