If you live in China and are in search of "high-quality driving and a spacious cabin," has Honda got a boy-howdy deal for you. It's called the Concept D and they've just unveiled it at the Shanghai auto show.

Calling it a "concept model for a new SUV model under development," Honda's D wears a Voltronian face that falls somewhere between modern Honda and current Acura. The bold prow is certain to be toned down for production, which is probably for the best. Unless they deign to add a genuine-faux-fur mane around the forward cabin, in which case we'll hail the new China-market cyber lion. Sadly, such a vehicle would not be surrounded by dancing ladies in skimpy jungle-dame outfits. But we suppose a bunch of guys standing around, looking disaffected in oversized vintage Lion King t-shirts could offer a soupçon of dramatic effect. What that effect might be, we're not sure.

The D's production variant, to be sold via the big H's joint ventures Guanggi Honda and Dongfeng Honda, will occupy the upper end of Honda's SUV sales stratum in China. Beyond that, we're woefully short on information, aside from the fact that it'll be equipped with "advanced safety technologies and other advanced features." We hope those unspecified technologies include airbags designed to imprint a robot Timon and Pumbaa on your face in the event of an accident. Every collision could use a little post-wreck cheer, after all.
