On Monday, we presented this week's shifter and asked you to identify the make and model of the vehicle whence it came. We were almost sure this shift knob's anonymous look would throw you guys off of the BMW trail, but eagle-eyed commenter fhlh was quick to see past our ruse. fhlh correctly identified the stick as belonging to a 1980 BMW 320iS, and will receive a Save the Manuals button and sticker as a reward.
The 320iS pictured here is from our November 1980 issue. The S meant this 3-series came with a $2475 option package with goodies like a limited-slip differential, a sport suspension, extra cabin features, and more. Fun fact: we described the car's at-the-limit behavior as "ragged instability." Not very BMW-like . . .
