VW ’Roks Wörthersee Festival with Amarok Power Concept with 5000(!)-Watt Sound System

VW 'Roks Wörthersee Festival with Amarok Power Concept with 5000(!)-Watt Sound System

MMM-TSCH, MMM-TSCH, MMM-TSCH, MMM-TSCH, MMM-TSCH, MMM-TSCH . . .

We were so very, very tempted to fill this page with just those words, along some pictures of Volkswagen's Amarok Power pickup concept. What better way is there to describe a truck with a ridiculous sound system than putting the sound of thumpin' bass into words? But alas, being Car and Driver readers, you probably want more details, so here's the skinny on this slick-looking and really loud one-off Amarok that will appear at the annual Volkswagen Wörthersee pow-wow this weekend.

The Amarok Power is a lowered, two-seat, regular-cab version of the production Amarok, which is more or less VW's take on the Chevy Colorado. (Yes we want it; no we'll never get it.) The custom-looking fascia and 22-inch wheels are much like those of the last Amarok Power, which appeared at Wörthersee in 2013 toting a go-kart in the bed, and gives the truck a sort of German Ford F-150 Tremor vibe. This year, dark "Dynamic" gray paint with orange accents covers the Amarok's body, and its bed is stuffed with custom Void Acoustics speakers, stands, and turntables with no less than 5000 watts of output. A DJ is optional.

The interior features a mix of black and orange Nappa leather and black faux suede covering the steering wheel, seats, and doors; "carbon leather," whatever that is, also is part of the deal. Among the cuter details are a re-creation of the Amarok's honeycomb grille in the leather perforations and a laser-etched silhouette of the Amarok in the seatback. Power—of the motivational, non-audio kind—comes from a diesel V-6 with 268 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque; top speed is an impressive 130 mph.

This isn't the first automobile to be turned into a rolling DJ booth, of course—SEMA is full of them every year—but it should VW crank up the volume at Wörthersee, it might just be the first capable of causing an avalanche in the Alps. Darn kids.
