Aaron Robinson: The Law is the Law, Unless You're the Law

The best speed-trap detectors are the drivers in the cars ahead, as it's now an ingrained human instinct to stand on the brakes once a lurking highway patrolman is spotted. Because the cops are vested with the almighty power of the ticket book, they are the wolves among us sheep, the peril around which the rest of us tiptoe in meek packs, hoping not to get singled out. For most officers, a certain degree of power and status perhaps balances out the job's danger, constant nuisances, and not especially high pay. For some, it seems to encourage a reckless liberty behind the wheel. (more…)
