Jeep Announces 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Altitude Edition

2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Altitude Front 3/4

Jeep has announced the special-edition Wrangler Unlimited Altitude, which follows the identically named Grand Cherokee, Patriot, and Compass models announced last month. The Wrangler was sort of conspicuous by its absence in that group—it's one of the most special-edition-ized vehicles in the history of the planet, after all, with recent jobs including the Arctic, the Islander and Mountain, and the Mojave—but now only the Liberty is left with its altimeter pegged at zero.2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Altitude Interior

The Wrangler Altitude getup is limited to, er, Unlimited four-doors, and the treatment is essentially identical to that applied to the other three Jeeps. The package starts with a Sahara model and adds a pile of black exterior bits, including the front badge, the wheel spokes, the fuel door, and a hood sticker. Inside, the vent trim, door pulls, steering-wheel spokes, and passenger grab handle are rendered in black. Stuff that's stitched is done in red. The Altitude Wrangler can be painted cherry red, black, white, or silver, and all include a body-colored hardtop.

Like all other 2012 Wranglers, the Altitude is powered by a 285-horse V-6 hooked to either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic. (Check out tests of 2012 Wranglers with manual and automatic transmissions in the links above.) Jeep will build 4500 examples, and will peddle them starting next month with a base price of $34,640, which is a $2995 premium over an Unlimited Sahara.
