Ford Prices 2013 Fusion’s Stop-Start System at $295, Keeps Rest of the Car’s Price a Secret

2013 Ford Fusion

The new 2013 Ford Fusion will be the first nonhybrid mid-size sedan to offer an engine stop-start system. This feature will be available only on cars equipped with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, and we now know it will be a $295 option.

Auto stop-start systems automatically switch off the engine when the car comes to a stop to save fuel when it would otherwise be idling, and then fire the engine again when it's time to go, generally when the driver's foot leaves the brake pedal. Ford claims that this system will improve fuel efficiency by 3.5 percent overall and up to 10 percent in city driving.

It's nice of Ford to share with us the price of this option, but what we'd really like to know is what the whole car costs, a number Ford seems to want to keep to itself. We expect a base price near the current car's $21,500 sticker, or the equivalent of about 73 of the engine stop-start systems.
