Mercedes-Benz Reveals Super-Luxurious CL Grand Edition for Europe

Mercedes-Benz CL-class Grand Edition

To celebrate the S-class coupe's 60th anniversary, Mercedes-Benz is rolling out a Grand Edition package for the CL-class in Europe. The CL's Grand Edition treatment, like that on the also-Euro-only GL-class SUV, bundles a few high(er)-end features and adds a touch of further exclusivity. To wit, the GE package offers buyers a choice of three paint colors: Platinum Black, Mocha Black, or—for around an extra €1500—matte Magno Cashmere White. The AMG Sports package is included and brings more-aggressive front and rear lower-fascia trim, as well as rocker-panel extensions.

The all-aniline-leather interior can be had in Armagnac (pictured), Black, or Light Porcelain. All of the CL's interior trim options are available, including Black Ash and traditional Burr Walnut wood. Either non-AMG CL can be ordered with the €4850 Grand Edition package, which means wealthy European buyers can choose the CL500 or the CL600 as their base car. The CL500 (CL550 here in the U.S.) is powered by Benz's new, 435-hp, 4.6-liter twin-turbocharged V-8; the CL600 gets a 517-hp, 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-12.

And if you're wondering about that S-class coupe birthday tie-in, remember that the CL is basically just a two-door version of Benz's big sedan. Its predecessors were badged as S-classes up until the late '90s. So happy birthday, and all that.
