2013 Lincoln MKZ Shows Off a Big Retractable Glass Roof [New York Auto Show]

2013 Lincoln MKZ panoramic sun roof

Lincoln has released a video of its 2013 MKZ flaunting the car's new retractable glass roof. But this isn't your ordinary standard-issue sunroof. This one is, well, huge.

A 15.2-square-foot section of the roof—basically everything between the A- and C-pillars—slides back to create an opening that is almost two feet long by two-and-a-half-feet wide. The sliding glass panel, which is powered by twin motors, moves back on rails to rest over the backlight. Lincoln claims it takes 10 seconds to open or close. The whole thing reminds us of the latest Porsche 911 Targa's roof.

The MKZ was shown as a concept at the 2012 Detroit auto show and the 2013 production model will debut at the New York auto show next week.
